The 20th Anniversary of Hong Kong Drum Festival
The Hong Kong Drum Festival was first held in 2003 as part of a series of events to get Hong Kong back on its feet after the outbreak of the SARS epidemic, and features a range of interactive activities, drum competitions and concerts to foster a community spirit and introduce people from different walks of life to traditional Chinese music. Since its launch, the Hong Kong Drum Festival has become a key fixture on the city’s cultural calendar – in addition to cultural events, it also helps to support local communities through a series of community-based activities.
This year, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) will be organising a series of online and offline events to mark the 20th anniversary of the Hong Kong Drum Festival and brings together citizens, tourists, elderly, youngsters, vulnerable groups, young persons in custody
and ethnic minorities etc in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.
